Port Harcourt Chamber Seeks Closure of Discount Market

The Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHACCIMA), has called for the closure of the Port Harcourt Discount Market during its yearly international trade fair.

President of PHACCIMA, Emeka Unachukwu, noted that the Discount Market was impacting negatively on promoters of the Port Harcourt International Trade Fair even as he urged the state Ministry of Commerce,, which is the host of the discount market to collaborate with the chamber to boost economic and development activities in the state.

Unachukwu, who made the call while briefing journalists on the chambers preparedness on this year’s trade fair billed to take off from December 7, in PortHarcourt, noted that the PortHarcourt trade fair has become a major catalyst in the development of domestic trade and remains pivotal in promoting international trade.

His words: “we call on the State government to shut down the discount market which takes off same time with the PortHarcourt international trade fair, we are partners in progress and not competing partners, whenever the market is allowed to run same time with the trade fair, it competes for exhibitors and customers and that is not good for our economy”
