Amusan decries capital flight in Ogun
A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Chief Jelili Kayode Amusan has decried the standard of living of the people of the state.
Baring his mind to Daily Sun, he said Ogun State people were poorer than they were before the Ibikunle Amosun administration.
He blamed this on the massive capital flight affecting the economy of the state and its people.
Specifically, Amusan a former member of the House of Representatives blamed the development on the current administration in Ogun State. According to him, while it may be true that the Amosun administration was doing some projects, the real beneficiaries were outsiders.
This he said was in view of the fact that such contracts which go to big companies, cannot be traced to Ogun people.
Continuing, he said this leads to capital flight as the funds never stay within the state’s economy to benefit the people.
Aside this, Amusan noted that even the projects do not provide employment for the state’s teeming unemployed army, as the workers are mostly from outside.
Worse still, he noted that the bulk of the materials for construction of these projects are from outside the state. This, he said makes suppliers of such products in Ogun State idle while outsiders feed fat on their resources.
Consequently, he promised to ensure that a local content bill is passed into law to redress the situation if he becomes the governor.
The former lawmaker said this would make it mandatory for contractors to use the state’s workforce and materials for projects.
He stressed that this will grow the state’s economy and provide jobs to its unemployment army roaming the streets.
Amusan said it was uncharitable for Ogun material suppliers to be idle while projects are going on before their very eyes
